History and Industrial Heritage of Gorna Oryahovitsa
Industrialization in the Early 20th Century
Gorna Oryahovitsa, strategically located in Northern Bulgaria, began its industrial rise in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The opening of the railway station in 1899 transformed the town into a major transportation hub, stimulating the development of the local economy. The key position of the railway line gave momentum to numerous industrial projects and provided access to vital markets.
International Recognition
In 1925, Gorna Oryahovitsa established itself as a significant industrial center by hosting an International Trade Fair. The event attracted companies from across Europe and the United States, including leading manufacturers such as Siemens, Philips, Ford, and Fiat, placing the town firmly on Europe’s industrial map.
Development During the Socialist Period
After World War II, the industrialization of Gorna Oryahovitsa continued. Various manufacturing enterprises were established, including the sugar factory “Zaharni Zavodi,” which became a symbol of industrial progress in the region.
